Army AEA Codes List

AEA codes, or Assignment Eligibility and Availability Codes, are used to determine when a Soldier is eligible for special programs and assignments. The codes are based on a soldier’s MOS/AOC and SQI. They can be viewed in the eMILPO system. AEA codes can reflect selection to an officer-producing candidate school or WOCS, DA Form 4187 stability application windows, and operational deletion/regeneration stabilization code. Correct and accurate AEA codes are critical for reenlistment, promotion, awards, and attendance at military schooling.

What are AEA Codes in the Army?

The Army uses AEA codes to track Soldiers’ assignment eligibility and availability. These codes are updated regularly and displayed in the eMILPO drop-down menu. They are also used to determine eligibility for special programs and assignments. The AEA codes are based on priority national and Army missions, institutional Army goals, and Soldiers’ personal desires.

Enlisted soldiers are classified by their jobs, called military occupational specialties (MOS). Each MOS is labeled with a two-digit number appended with a letter. Related MOSs are grouped together by their Career Management Field or CMF. Commissioned officers are classified by their areas of concentration or AOCs. Like enlisted MOSs, AOCs are two digits plus a letter. Related AOCs are grouped by branch of service or broader in-scope functional areas.

An AEA code A indicates that the soldier is ineligible for future PCS orders until the reason for the code has been resolved. This restriction can be imposed by Army HRC or someone at the field level (s1, career counselor, etc.). The reasons for a code A may include serious family problems that are expected to be resolved in 1 year, recent death of authorized family member, incarceration of authorized Family members, and other extreme circumstances deemed appropriate by the convening authority.
