How to track the stimulus payment status?

The Internal Revenue Service sent out stimulus payments to their rightful owners. Individuals and families who qualify for the stimulus payments can track the status of their payments using the IRS Get My Payment. This tool works similar to the online tool used for tracking tax refunds but actually allowed more.
You could apply to receive a stimulus payment as a non-filer using this line tool before late-November. Everyone who qualify for the stimulus payment can see the whereabouts of their payments. Whether you were sent a paper check or direct deposited into your bank account, you will know about the status of your payment right away by searching it on Get My Payment.
To track the status of your stimulus payment, head over to the IRS Get My Payment online tool and enter the following to verify your identity.
- Social Security Number
- Mailing address as shown on tax return
- Date of birth
Upon entering these, you will know the exact status of your stimulus payment. If the IRS mailed your stimulus payment, you will know when it was sent out.
Stimulus Status Not Available
If the stimulus status shows as not available on Get My Payment app and you qualify for the payment, you will need to file a tax return to submit the IRS your payment information and claim the recovery rebate credit. This is your Economic Impact Payment and all of these payments were an advanced payment of this credit.
So as a non-filer who isn’t required to file a tax return, you must file one in order to get your payment. If the IRS lacks your payment information, how could the agency send your payment? That said, you need to provide the IRS with your payment information whether it be your mail address or bank account. After filing a return, you will get your payment as a tax refund, The recovery rebate credit is fully refundable and since you don’t have any tax liability to pay as a non-filer, you will get the full amount refnuded to you.
If you have tax liability to pay though, the recovery rebate credit will reduce the amount you owe to the IRS. It works just like any other tax credit except it’s refundable to the full amount. So if you owe $100 in taxes and the recovery rebate credit you qualify to take is $1,800 – and you don’t take any other credits – your refund will be $1,700.
